Dermalogica Protection 50 Sport SPF50 {Review & Competition}

Finding a good skin care product can quite literally be life-changing. To me, finding the Dermalogica range of skin products was just that – I have no idea why it took me as long as it has. Well, I do – just like most other mothers, I find it incredibly hard to spend money on myself. Anyway, I digress.

One of the earliest lessons I learned from the women in my family was to protect my skin from the sun at all costs. My great-grandmother and grandmother both had skin that looked like it was chiseled out of marble until a remarkably late age. My own mother (who went through a stint of tanning with cooking oil and coke) also aged incredibly well, but due to her antics developed a severe skin allergy. Maybe it is good genes, but I do think there is something terrifying about the sun, the UV rays and the devastating effects it can have on our skin.

With long summer days just around the corner, it’s time to start upping our sun skin protection game (to be clear, you should be wearing some sort of UV protection all-year round). Long gone are the days when applying sunscreen meant donning a greasy, pore-clogging mask with a side of ashiness and telltale white smears. The next generation of SPF not only nixes these common annoyances, but fits into your daily skin care and make-up routine effortlessly. There is no excuse not to give your skin the protection it needs. You don’t have to spend a fortune to protect your skin from the sun, with plenty of budget sun lotions, sun creams, milks and oils all doing a decent job at protecting you from the sun’s harmful rays. But if you want to combine your sunscreen with good skin care, that’s another issue altogether – and usually means being more willing to splash the cash.

Which brings me to the Dermalogica Protection 50 SPF50 – trust me when we say this stuff absorbs in about two seconds and doesn’t leave any greasy residue whatsoever. Sport and fitness enthusiasts will love this high-factor, water-resistant and all-natural sunscreen that protects against the sun’s harmful rays even when you sweat. Good for all skin types, you can feel it nourishing the skin.

I have tried several natural and organic sun care lotions over the years, and they either leave me with skin that is too greasy, white as a ghost, streaky or the smell is unbearable. The Dermalogica Protection 50 SPF50 is by far the best one I have tried, and blends perfectly with my foundation which is an added bonus. It does not have an overwhelming fragrance and the consistency of the product makes it extremely easy to apply.

The only downside is the hefty price tag of R599 for 156ml, but I suppose it depends on what you want out of your sun protection lotion and what you are willing to spend to get it. Dermalogica South Africa does have an amazing promotion running until 30 September 2018, in which customers can receive a FREE Dermalogica Protection 50 SPF50 when they purchase any two full-size Dermalogica products at any Dermalogica concept store or online at www.dermalogica.co.za
