We were sent a demo model of the Meaco Dehumidifier by Solenco to try out and review and I can’t believe I have to part with this machine soon… My heart is actually breaking as I am typing this. I have never owned a dehumidifier before (I thought I did, but turns out it’s not the same thing as a humidifier – I know… OBVIOUSLY). Let me be honest, when it arrived I felt a bit meh about it, I had much more exciting things to review and I kept putting it off. One night, Knox’s sinus flared up and I thought it was the perfect opportunity to put it to the test. I honestly did not expect much, little did I know that I would fall in love.
When the Meaco Dehumidifier arrived at our house, I was a little intimidated by the look of it and by the fact that I actually had no idea what it is supposed to do. There were so many buttons, and an instruction manual… I really don’t like reading instruction manuals. After a few minutes of faking a headache and pretending to be super busy, my husband finally gave in and read it for me. After he gave me the bullet point version, I realized that it was actually pretty easy to operate.
No, really… it’s super easy.
You press the power button, select the desired humidity level (we chose 55%) and it does it’s thing. That’s it.
Meaco has 2 models in their Platinum Range of low energy dehumidifiers, the 12L and 20L. We tried the 20L which gives you the option of a louvre function, a timer and 2 fan speeds.
It also comes with an optional True HEPA filter for extra air cleaning. It is the only type of filter that you can buy with a dehumidifier to remove allergens smaller than the eye can see from the air such as pollen, dust mites, mould spores and pet dander. Allergy sufferers will really benefit from this filter especially during spring time!
Anyway, back to my son’s sinus and snotty nose. We ran the machine in the kids’ room over night to see if it would help, and I promise – hand on my heart – his sinus cleared up by the next morning. Mikayla has asthma and she often has coughing fits during the night (allergy related), and it just has not been happening at all since we have been using the dehumidifier. We have been running it in their room every single night since, and the difference has been absolutely incredible.
This got me so excited that I wondered what else it is able to do, so I asked my Facebook followers if they had ever used dehumidifiers. A few of my foreign followers advised me that they use them regularly to dry their clothes when the weather is bad. As you all know we’ve been suffering through a terrible drought but for a couple of days now we’ve had some welcomed rain, which is great except for the loads of wet washing everywhere. We set the Meaco Dehumidifier up in our wash room with some wet clothes, blankets and even towels and left it for about 2 hours. Everything was completely dry when the timer switched the machine off. I was even more impressed, and even more sad to have to see it go.
It has 4 castor wheels which makes it super easy to move around the house. We decided to try it out in our lounge next, which is a very large area with astro-turf carpeting. It is also our cats’ and dogs’ favourite spot to hang out and sometimes ends up smelling a bit like a wet dog. I never noticed any damp or stale air in the lounge before but since running the Meaco Dehumidifier I now notice how crisp and fresh the air is. It’s as if there was a layer of stale air in the lounge which I only noticed once it was gone. I honestly do not know how we are going to revert back to life without being able to run this machine.
We tested the Meaco Dehumidifier for two weeks, here is an overview:
- This really is a great little machine. It’s quiet enough to run during the day and night
- It’s visually appealing, so won’t clash with your decor
- It really helps with allergies – and this comes from an entire family of allergy and asthma sufferers
- It’s awesome at drying clothes
- It’s pretty energy-efficient too!
- You will be shocked at how much moisture it draws out of the air – I have been using the water it has been collecting to water my plants (finally!)
- It gets rid of damp and mold effortlessly
The Meaco 20L Low Energy Dehumidifier from Solenco is without a doubt the best value for money. It has won numerous awards both locally and internationally, it even carries the Allergy Foundation of South Africa’s Seal of Approval.
Have you got a dehumidifier or do you think you would benefit from having one? Let me know in the comments.
