Introducing Natralogic – Local, Organic, Vegan & Pregnancy Safe Skincare

Pregnancy truly is a beautiful and miraculous time in any woman’s life… it is also quite overwhelming. I am pregnant with my third child and I still cannot wrap my head around all the changes my body is going through, and the fact that a little human being is growing inside me. I doubt it is something we can ever fully prepare ourselves for.

I don’t know about you, but besides all the changes my body is going through – I also feel extremely overwhelmed by this crushing sense of responsibility that I have for this little one’s life. Just like with my other two kids, it is and will always be my biggest job to look after them and keep them safe. The products I allow on their skin has a big part to play in that – as funny as that may sound.

My eldest was born during a time where we did not really understand the different ingredients that went into skincare. You used the generic skincare brand available in all the mass supermarkets just like everyone else did, completely oblivious to the damage it could do. She grew up with severe eczema and asthma, and after a few years and a lot of research I threw every single non-organic and non-natural product that could possibly come into contact with her skin into the trash. We replaced our laundry powder, fabric softener, cleaning products, bath and skincare products with natural and organic ingredients… my daughter has not had an eczema flare up in years and her asthma has also improved drastically. My second child grew up with ingredients being scrutinized by us, and we have never had any skin or allergy issues with him.

To me, the products I use on my children play a big role in their overall health and safety. We should treat our pregnant bodies no differently. Pregnancy is the most natural and beautiful thing in a woman’s life, the same should be true of the skincare products we use. There are all sorts of harmful chemicals and toxins in so many of our beauty and skincare products, sometimes even those claiming to be “natural. “Therefore, it is so important that we always do our research thoroughly, when we know better – we do better.

Lauren Lamont, the founder of Natralogic, felt the same way when she was pregnant with her son Connor. Most products available in South Africa for pregnant mothers contained harmful ingredients that are not recommended for use during pregnancy as they have been associated with miscarriage, bleeding complications, congenital disabilities, disruption in foetal growth and some are known carcinogens. Lauren has an impressive resume, and her Master’s degree in Pure and Applied Chemistry as well as Diploma in Cosmetic Chemistry enabled her to develop products that contained only the safest, most effective natural ingredients. This inspired her to launch Natralogic, South Africa’s first all-natural skincare range developed specifically for the needs of pregnant women, with the intention of helping other moms feel empowered and at ease over their pregnancy skincare choices.

Lauren Lamont is not only extremely qualified on paper (I mean really, you should read about her here… she is a powerhouse), but she also works as a Research and Development Chemist for some of South Africa’s top brands. She has done the formulations of trusted brands such as The Tan Lab, Woolworths Skincare and bath ranges, Lil-lets, Clicks, Sorbet, Oh So Heavenly, Island Tribe and more. If there is anyone I would trust with the health and safety of my skin – it is her. It also really puts my mind at ease that she is a mother herself and that this range is completely local.

When Lauren contacted me I felt so honoured that she trusted me to spread the word of her skincare range – a brand she has built from scratch, and worked incredibly hard to launch. She sent me each item in the range, and I have used it for quite a few weeks now. Although I loved the products from the start, I never quite appreciated them as much as I do now that my pregnancy has officially entered the uncomfortable stage. With all the drama we have experienced these past few weeks, I really don’t want to complain – but pregnancy is not always easy. Sometimes you need to fake the glow! Sometimes, you need a little extra TLC to see you through. There is absolutely nothing wrong with that but make it extra special by using the best and safest products available for you and your unborn baby.

As modern women, we have a lot on our plates. Juggling work and family life can leave little time to really immerse yourself in your own thoughts, relax and reflect, let alone try to soothe your highly taxed body. Before you know it, you have a little baby in your arms and the entire pregnancy journey is over. Trust me, no matter how hard pregnancy was you always end up missing it afterwards… we are just wired that way. A proper and immersive skincare routine has truly forced me to slow down and really appreciate my body, to notice the changes and show it some much deserved appreciation. Our skin is working overtime, stretching past the point we thought it could and dealing with various hormonal changes. Pregnancy changes everything, so take the time to get to know your new body and it’s needs.

Natralogic contains ingredients that no doctor would question, they take the guesswork out of pregnancy-safe skincare and give women complete peace of mind. Lauren has spent a lot of time on her blog posts which can be found here on the Natralogic website, in the hopes to help moms out there with pregnancy and also help them make good skincare choices.

The Natralogic range is Cruelty free (certified by Beauty Without Cruelty), COSMOS NATURAL certified by ECOCERT Greenlife according to COSMOS standard, Certified Vegan by the Vegan Society, Clinically and Dermatologically certified, Formulated with Certified Organic Ingredients, and approved by European Safety Regulations (EC1223/2009)!

The product range currently consists of:

The Cooling Leg Gel

I am going to start with this as it is by far my favourite product in the range. This truly helped make those sweltering Cape Town Summer night relatively bearable. I went into preterm labour and was placed on a drug called Adalat to keep the contractions at bay, as well as given a few rounds of steroids to mature my little baby’s lungs just in case. The biggest side effect of these medications are terrible hot flushes. The Cooling leg gel provided comfort, helped me feel fresh and just made me feel more comfortable. On busy days it helps me revive my puffy, tired legs and feet. I use it every time I need a little “breather” or “pick-me-up”, massaging it into my legs and catching up with my thoughts. I am officially at the point where I cannot reach my legs or feat anymore, so now my husband does it for me and it is really special. I love the fresh smell, and the instant cooling and tingling sensation it leaves on my skin.

The gel is non-sticky, which I really appreciate as I really don’t want to feel more uncomfortable than I already am. To be honest, it does not even really look like gel, but more like a very light lotion. The unique formulation is based on natural ingredients with healing and anti-inflammatory properties that improve circulation and reduce water retention.

Exfoliating Crème

This product is essential for stretch mark prevention. I unfortunately already have stretch marks from my first pregnancy, but I have not gotten a single extra one, so I supposed that is good? Not that I mind, I really love my stretch marks. It helped me a lot with itchy skin and has become an in-shower ritual I look forward to. The Exfoliating Crème aids in the removal of dead skin cells, speeds up cell renewal, boosts the skin’s natural repair process, and prepares the skin for better product absorption. I find it very moisturizing, and it leaves my skin feeling supple and smooth. It has a very fresh, organic scent without smelling overly herb like.

Aqua (Water), Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis (Sweet Almond) Oil, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea Butter)*, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Glycerin, Glyceryl Stearate Citrate, Cetearyl Alcohol, Theobroma Cacao (Cocoa) Seed Butter, Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Hydrogenated Jojoba Oil, Sodium Lactate, Sodium Gluconate, Lavandula Angustifolia Oil, Citrus Aurantium Var Amara Oil, Xanthan Gum, Glyceryl Caprylate, Dehydroacetic Acid, Benzyl Alcohol, Benzoic Acid**, Linalool**, Limonene**, Citral**

Nipple Crème

I can only truly put this to the test when baby arrives and I start my breastfeeding journey, but what I can tell you in the meantime is that it has a very similar consistency to PureLan, but it is less sticky and easier to apply. The Natralogic Nipple Crème is 100% ultrapure medical grade lanolin that will help ease the discomfort of cracked and sore nipples associated with breastfeeding. It is the ideal treatment for Stages 1 and 2 of nipple damage and is also excellent for early protection of sensitive and dry nipples during pregnancy.

Toning Massage Oil

This is another one of my absolute favourites. I am a huge fan of anything with a fresh citrus scent, and this has a citrus undertone. It smells divine. Might be a bit strange to bring up, but I also like the fact that the oil is clear in colour. The concentrated blend of natural oils and active ingredients work synergistically to shape body contours, reduce the appearance of cellulite and improve microcirculation of waterlogged tissues. It absorbs quickly and does not leave an oily residue, but rather leaves your skin feeling ultra-moisturised and velvety.

Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis (Sweet Almond) Oil, Olea Europaea (Olive) Oil, Helianthus Annuus Seed Oil, Triticum Vulgare (Wheat) Germ Oil, Schinus Terebinthifolius Seed Extract, Centella Asiatica Extract*, Tocopherol, Citrus Aurantium Var Amara Oil, Citrus Sinensis Oil, Citrus Limonum Oil, Citrus Paradisi Oil, Linalool**, Limonene**, Benzyl Alcohol**, Citral**

Tummy Crème

This is such an excellent product, and a must-have in my opinion. I particularly love the texture, the best way to describe it is that it is similar to a very creamy and expensive yoghurt! I use this all over my body, not just my tummy and it gives me a stunning glow. And yes, I am one of those pregnant mammas that need to fake the glow. It has a very subtle scent and is quite a mild product. The Natralogic Tummy Crème was scientifically designed for effective prevention and correction of the appearance of stretch marks during and after pregnancy. The formulation contains a proprietary blend of natural active ingredients that work synergistically to help promote collagen and elastin production, allowing an improvement in skin tone and elasticity.
